Interior painting is generally less expensive because it's weather-independent and often covers smaller areas. Exterior projects typically cost more due to equipment, safety, and seasonal timing.
That said, doing either one poorly will cost even more in the long run. A cheap job now could mean a full repaint in just a year or two.
