Dry-cleaning has been used for long for fine fabrics, special occasion wear, and for something really special. But behind that immaculate appearance usually lies a process that is anything but tidy, at least environmentally. The dry cleaning industry tends to rely on conventional solvents that encompass a plethora of hazardous chemicals, perchloroethylene (or perc) being the chief of them, which have been suspected of contaminating air and water bodies and carrying alleged health risks in the long run.
