Mythic Uniques in Diablo 4 are meant to be the crown jewels of loot hunting-the rarest, most powerful items that can transform a build. In theory, these are the pieces every player dreams of seeing drop, the kind of weapons and armor that can define an entire season Diablo 4 Items.

 

In practice, however, not all Mythic Uniques are created equal. While items like Starless Sky or the legendary Harlequin Crest (Shako) dominate the meta and feel irreplaceable in most builds, others sit in players' inventories collecting dust. The gap between the strongest and weakest Mythic Uniques has only grown more obvious as the game has evolved.

 

With Season 10 and a potential expansion on the horizon, it's more important than ever that Blizzard revisits these items. Every Mythic Unique should feel exciting to find, not like wasted potential. Below, I'll break down the weakest offenders, suggest improvements, and rank them in a tier list-from absolute duds to god-tier essentials.

 

Bottom Tier: "Why Do These Even Exist?"

 

At the very bottom of the list are the Mythic Uniques that see no meaningful play in any build. These aren't just situational-they're effectively dead weight in the current game.

 

Shattered Vow

 

The Shattered Vow is supposed to be a two-handed weapon designed around damage-over-time (DoT) and bleed builds. The problem? It lacks any meaningful multiplier. A flat 44% attack speed while berserk sounds nice on paper, but in practice, it's negligible given the attack speed caps already in place.

 

How to fix it:

 Add a bleed-based execute mechanic, such as: "Enemies with more bleed damage than life explode, spreading bleed to nearby targets."

 Provide multiplicative damage scaling while berserking to make the weapon competitive with other two-handers.

 

Right now, it feels like equipping the Shattered Vow is actively sabotaging your build.

 

Necasum, the Herald

 

This Spiritborn weapon tries to lean into critting and overpower mechanics, but it falls flat after the overpower nerfs. It can't compete with staples like the Rod of Kaleka or unique aspects like Redirected Force.

 

Fixes could include:

 Making its overpower bonuses scale multiplicatively with Spiritborn-specific traits.

 Adding a unique playstyle hook-like chaining overpower effects or summoning spectral spirits on crits.

 As it stands, it has no identity and feels outdated.

 

Aharian's Spear of Lighender

 

This one gives shrine effects, which sounds fun, but in practice it's useless. Even during shrine-heavy events like the Goblin Hunt, the weapon doesn't hold up. Its passive "+all stats" bonus is completely overshadowed by other options like the Rod of the Lightbringer.

 

What it needs:

 

 Shrine effects should provide major offensive multipliers-e.g., 100% increased damage while under shrine power.

 Remove the movement speed cap when shrine effects are active.

 Make it a fantasy item for shrine hunters, not just an awkward stat stick.

 Currently, it's the kind of drop that makes players sigh and salvage.

 

Low Tier: Niche Use, Mostly Defensive

 

The next step up are items that at least have some identity-but only in niche or defensive scenarios. The problem is that Diablo 4, like most ARPGs, heavily rewards offense. Unless you're in Hardcore, going full tank rarely feels worthwhile.

 

Turrel's Might

 

Once a fun option thanks to its artillery shrine synergy, Turrel's Might is now almost irrelevant. Its conditional lightning volleys deal pitiful damage, and requiring the player to stay "healthy" just makes it clunky.

 

To revive it:

 

 Multiply the artillery shrine damage by 10x or more.

 Let the lightning volleys scale with weapon damage so they feel impactful.

 Embrace the "storm of arrows and lightning" fantasy for a proper high-risk, high-reward playstyle.

 

Melted Heart of Selig

 

This amulet once had incredible power, doubling your total resources. Blizzard nerfed it down to a flat +60 resource, which gutted its potential. Since the amulet slot is one of the most competitive in the game, Melted Heart simply doesn't make the cut.

 

A fix is simple:

 

 Return it to 100% increased resources, like its original design.

 Make resource scaling synergize with more builds (e.g., damage multipliers based on total resource pool).

 Players should feel excited to see this drop-not disappointed.

 

Andariel's Visage

 

This helm provides poison damage bonuses, which pigeonholes it into very specific rogue builds. For most classes, it's useless since they can't scale poison at all. Even worse, it competes with far stronger helmets like Harlequin Crest or Visage of Predation.

 

Solutions:

 

 Make it class-restricted to poison-scaling classes.

 Add a multiplicative poison multiplier that encourages unique playstyles.

 Or broaden it into a more generic DoT helm, giving burn and shadow damage scaling as well.

Some Mythic Uniques are still usable, but they've been power-crept out of relevance. They're not completely worthless-but they need buffs to reclaim their former glory.

 

The Grandfather

 

Once the king of two-handed weapons, The Grandfather is still decent thanks to its massive stats and resource scaling. Barbarians in particular can leverage it with skills like Ramaldni's Magnum Opus or adaptability mechanics.

 

However, compared to modern meta options, it feels underwhelming.

 

 Possible fix: Add an offensive shadow or bleed mechanic, or amplify its multiplicative damage scaling to stay competitive.

 

Doombringer

 

This sword turns you into a near-immortal juggernaut, especially when fully masterworked. On Hardcore, it's still a powerhouse. The issue is that it's too one-dimensional-it only excels at defense.

 

What it needs:

 

 A meaningful offensive hook, like pulling enemies with shadow damage or corrupting them to take increased damage.

 Otherwise, it risks becoming just a "boring tank sword."

 

Both The Grandfather and Doombringer are relics of an older meta where overpower and life scaling were stronger. They deserve a modern facelift.

 

Top Tier: The Untouchables

 

At the top sit the Mythic Uniques that need no introduction-and certainly no nerfs. These are the items that define Diablo 4's endgame builds and keep players grinding.

 

 Harlequin Crest (Shako): Cooldown reduction, damage reduction, and skill rank boosts make it an auto-include in nearly any build.

 Starless Sky: Universally powerful, fitting seamlessly into almost every damage archetype.

 Sword of False Death: A top-tier damage dealer, especially in combo-oriented builds.

 Visage of Predation: Provides excellent competition in the helm slot, keeping itemization interesting.

 

These items are perfect examples of what Mythic Uniques should be-rare, powerful, and exciting to find. The key is not nerfing them, but bringing weaker items up to their level.

 

Why Buffing Matters

 

The biggest issue with underpowered Mythic Uniques is psychological. These are supposed to be the rarest, most coveted items in the game. When a player finally sees one drop, it should feel like winning the lottery. Instead, too often it feels like disappointment.

 

 Finding a Shako sparks joy.

 Finding a Shattered Vow sparks frustration.

 

This disparity is unhealthy for the game. Players shouldn't feel punished for their luck. Every Mythic Unique should have at least one viable build or niche where it shines.

 

Looking Ahead to Season 10

 

Season 10 begins September 23rd, with a PTR arriving soon. This is Blizzard's chance to make sweeping adjustments. A few thoughtful buffs-doubling damage multipliers, adding unique mechanics, restoring resource scaling-could breathe new life into the game's weakest items.

 

The goal isn't to homogenize every Mythic Unique into the same power level. The goal is to ensure that every single drop matters. Even if a Mythic isn't best-in-slot for most builds, it should inspire experimentation and creativity.

 

Final Thoughts

 

Diablo 4's Mythic Uniques embody both the best and worst parts of ARPG loot design. At their peak, they feel like legendary treasures that transform your character. At their worst, they're salvage fodder-rare disappointments that remind you how unbalanced the loot table can be.

 

The solution isn't nerfing the god-tier items like Shako or Starless Sky. It's buffing the forgotten ones: Shattered Vow, Necasum, Aharian's Spear, Melted Heart, and Andariel's Visage. With thoughtful adjustments, these could become exciting, build-defining tools instead of wasted drops.

 

Season 10 and the upcoming expansion represent a fresh chance for Blizzard to fix this problem. If every Mythic Unique becomes exciting in its own way, the hunt for loot will feel more rewarding than ever D4 materials.

 

Because at the end of the day, finding a Mythic Unique should never feel like bad luck-it should feel like destiny.
