Today, the community of ELDORADO PARK laid to rest little baby Nikita, only four years old. A child who should have had her whole life ahead of her. A child who should have been playing, laughing, and growing up safely in her community, not buried at this age.
As we mourn her, we cannot allow her death to be in vain. We cannot wait until another child is taken from us before we rise up. We need to ask ourselves; what must we do differently so this never happens again?
Moving forward, we as a community must stand together, not only in moments of tragedy, but in moments of prevention. We must be vigilant, we must protect our children, and we must take action where we see danger, neglect, or abuse.
Baby Nikita’s memory calls us to responsibility, unity, and change. Let’s ensure that no other child in our community suffers the same fate.
